Yes. Decoding, drawing and encoding all happen on the canvas inside your tab, and no picture is ever sent to a server. You can check it yourself: open the network panel and make a meme — nothing goes out.
QWhich file types can I open?+
PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF (the first frame), AVIF and BMP open directly. HEIC from an iPhone is converted to JPG in your browser. Files can be up to 40 MB and anything longer than 4096 px is scaled down once, so the tab stays responsive.
QWhy does the classic meme font look different on my phone?+
Impact ships with Windows and macOS but not with most Android or Linux devices, so those browsers substitute a similar face. The font picker tells you when a family is missing, and the export always matches what the canvas shows.
QHow do I get the white caption bar above the picture?+
Open the Canvas tab and raise the bar height. The picture keeps its own proportions and the bar is added on top, exactly like the classic top-caption format.
QCan I position things precisely?+
Drag anything on the canvas, or use the arrow keys to nudge by 0.5% (5% with Shift). The corner handle scales, the top handle rotates, Shift snaps rotation to 15° steps, and a guide appears when a layer hits the centre.
QCan I export bigger than the template?+
Yes. Templates are vector artwork, so 2x, 3x and 4x are re-rendered rather than upscaled. Uploaded photos export at their own resolution, and the tool caps the scale automatically when a canvas would get too large for the browser.
QDoes an upload start editing on its own?+
No. A dropped or pasted picture waits in a staging card until you choose how it should be set up and press the button. You can also start from a blank canvas and place every element yourself.
QCan it make animated GIF memes?+
